Can you tell me about your expertise?

I have been in the financial services industry since 2004, I’m a certified financial planner™ professional and Accredited Investment Fiduciary.  Over the years, my comments have been used in the Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, Kiplinger’s, Yahoo! Finance, and other publications.

Despite my expertise, no one person can know everything, so I rely on other professionals too.  I often work with a client's tax preparer, insurance agent, and attorney or bring in someone from my own network when necessary.

Why did you become a financial advisor?

Early in my career, I met a young family living in a drafty farmhouse.  They had decent income but were not sure what to do with it.  We set aside money for home repairs, created a college account for their young daughter, and started retirement accounts for each of them.  That was back in 2004 and I know the family is in a better spot today than if we never met.  It is gratifying to know my work can have a positive impact on families.

How do you work with clients?

The process is 100% client centric.  Together we identify their financial goals and vision for their future.  Next, I gather some facts and figures to determine if they are on track.  If there are areas that can be improved, we discuss solutions along with the pros and cons.  Finally, they decide which actions to take, we implement them, and regularly review progress together.

What else should people know about you?

I married my high school sweetheart Becca, and we have a son and daughter.  While not at work, I am with the family at the lake, snow skiing, or skating on the backyard pond.  We love to travel but let the least expensive airfare pick our destination for us.  Those travel adventures have created some of our favorite family memories.
